Homeowners are always strongly advised to polish up the look of their homes before putting them on the market. But there is one area that really seems to be forgotten, and that's your cupboards.
Over the years, everyone collects "things". When they don't have immediate use, these items get stuffed into any available space in your cupboards. On show days, almost invariably, clients will open cupboard doors, not to see what you have but to see the type of space available to them for their own requirements. What greets them is often overstuffed, disorganized chaos. Prospective clients don't see your valuables as prized possessions, instead they see clutter and too little space and they can't visualise their own belongings fitting into those cupboards. You've read many articles about de-cluttering and you have to extend this concept to your cupboards as well.
For your own benefit, install cupboards that are practical and user-friendly. There are so many new ideas on the market today - you don't have to stick to the old fashioned immovable shelves and rods. Everyone needs storage so make the most of movable shelves, belt racks, shoe shelves, etc.
The request for cupboard organisers is growing and can prove an invaluable asset when selling your house. Upgraded and modern cupboard space is most appealing to some clients and compares in importance to newly renovated kitchens and bathrooms.
Each room has a need for cupboard space whether it be for your clothes, your linen, your refrigerator, your tools - You name it, cupboard space is in big demand and there are lots of bells and whistles which need investigating.
All homeowners want to maximise space so installing suitable cupboards is the way to go. They can be designed to fit any space, and also made to be easily accessible and suitable for specific requirements. In other words, deep shelves for large items, shorter shelves for easy reach-in daily use, installed right up to the ceiling for those items not used regularly, household cleaning equipment, etc.
Based on the same principle as spice racks that you can pull out, so too is there an installation which allows you to pull your clothes out towards you, which pushes back when you are finished choosing the garments you want. You could even try one of these in your utility room where you keep your mops and cleaning material. Instead of stretching in to find things in a deep space, pull them out into the room and see them clearly and merely push them back without much effort.
With little bit of thought, your cupboard space can be made to be much more effective and efficient and a delight to prospective clients as well as yourself.
Remember if the outside of your home creates kerb appeal and entices buyers inside, then keep them there with a de-cluttered home and well-organised cupboards. You will be surprised the role that cupboards play in your home and, if they are well managed, they could be the item that brings you a sale.
